The first time you sign in to Studio for a new community, Tightknit runs a short setup wizard. This page explains what each step does and what to do when one of them stalls. If your community is already set up and you just need to get in, see Access the Studio instead.

Step 1: Install Slack

Studio is created from your Slack workspace, so the first step installs the Tightknit app into the workspace where your community lives.

Choose the workspace

Install Tightknit in the Slack workspace that hosts your community. If you belong to several workspaces, check the workspace name in Slack’s install screen before approving.

Approve the permissions

Slack shows the permissions Tightknit needs. For what each one is used for, see Slack scopes.
Install into the workspace you actually want to manage. Tightknit provisions your Studio workspace from the Slack workspace you pick, so installing into the wrong one means starting over.

Step 2: Set up workspace

After you approve the install, Tightknit creates your Studio workspace and connects your admin account. You can keep the tab open while this finishes, and Studio tells you when your admin membership is active. Most workspaces are ready in under a minute.
Slack’s handoff occasionally lags. Leave the tab open. Studio keeps checking and moves on by itself once your membership appears.
If the wizard gives up, the usual cause is that the Slack install did not complete, for example because an approval was required and is still pending with a workspace admin. Confirm Tightknit appears in your Slack workspace’s app list, then reload the wizard.
Tightknit’s install requires a Slack workspace admin. Ask an admin to install it, and have them invite you afterwards from Settings > Workspace.

Step 3: Next steps

Once your workspace exists, Studio recommends the three things worth doing before you invite anyone else:

Activate your first Slack channel

Nothing syncs until a channel is activated. Until you do this, Discussions and the analytics dashboard stay empty. See Activate a channel.

Create a feed

A feed connects an activated channel to a page on your community site, which is what turns Slack conversations into public, searchable content. See Create a feed.

Make the community yours

Add your branding before inviting the rest of your team. See the Branding guide.
Click Load Studio to mark setup complete and land on your Overview dashboard. The wizard does not appear again.
