Message Blaster is in beta. It is off by default and available to admins only. Contact your Tightknit representative to enable it for your community.
Message Blaster is where your team writes Slack messages for the community: announcements, newsletters, event reminders, or a note to a handful of members. You build the message from blocks with a live Slack preview, share the draft with teammates to review and comment, then post it in a channel or send it as direct messages, straight away or at a time you choose. Open it at Message Blaster in the Studio sidebar, under Engagement.
Did you know you can draft messages with our MCP server too? Try asking your agent: “Draft a Message Blaster message announcing next week’s AMA, and share it with me to review.”

The Messages list

The Messages list shows every message you can open, most recently edited first. Select New message to start one. Use the first dropdown to choose whose messages to show: Use the second dropdown to filter by Draft, Scheduled, or Sent. The Sent view adds a Recipients column with how many channels and members each message reached, and how many failed or were skipped. Each message has a status: From a row’s menu, select Duplicate to copy a message into a new private draft, or Delete to delete a draft you own. Deleting a scheduled draft also cancels its send, and can’t be undone.

Write a message

Select New message on the Messages list, or go to New message directly, to open the composer. The left side is a palette of blocks, the middle is your message, and the preview shows how it will look in Slack, in the same light or dark theme as Studio. The palette starts in basic mode, with the blocks most messages need: a header, a divider, rich text, and an image. Select Advanced to see every Slack Block Kit block, such as sections, buttons, tables, and cards, and Basic to go back. To add an image from your computer, drag a PNG, JPEG, or GIF file onto the message. Or open an image block, where Upload image is the default image source, and drop a file on it or select Choose file. Other image fields, such as a section’s image, have an Upload image button above their URL. Tightknit hosts the image for you, so you don’t need a separate image host, and your community’s upload size limit applies. In rich text, type @ to mention a member who has a linked Slack account, or # to link a Slack channel. Your workspace’s custom emoji are available in the emoji picker.
Select View JSON to see the message as Slack Block Kit JSON. Edits you make there update the preview as you type, so you can paste in JSON built elsewhere. Copy JSON copies the message to use in another tool.

Saving and naming

Your first change saves the message as a private draft that only you can see. After that, Message Blaster saves a couple of seconds after you stop typing, and the status next to the draft’s name shows Saving…, Saved, or Couldn’t save with a Retry link. A draft is named after its opening text. Select the pencil icon beside the name to rename it. If a teammate saves a newer version while you are editing, your changes aren’t saved over theirs. Choose Save mine as a copy to keep yours as a new draft, or Load their version to continue from theirs.

Edit a message that’s already in Slack

To change a message your community already posted, select Load message in the composer, then pick a recent message or paste its Slack message link. You can update the original message, or send its content as a new message. You can load messages from public channels that the Tightknit app posted, or that you posted yourself after connecting your Slack account. A message someone else posted can be opened as a new message instead.
Slack only allows a message to be edited for a limited time after it was posted. Once that window closes, send it as a new message instead.

Send a message

When the message is ready, select Review & send. The dialog walks through where the message goes and who it comes from, then its settings, with a preview alongside.
1

Add recipients

Select Add recipients, then Channel, Direct messages (DMs), or both.
2

Choose a channel and who it posts as

Pick a channel. Only channels the Tightknit app has been added to are listed.Under Post as, each option shows the name and icon the message will carry:
  • Your Slack account — posts as you. Select the Slack sign-in button if your account isn’t connected yet. The channel list is then limited to channels you’re a member of.
  • The Tightknit app — posts as the Tightknit bot, so it isn’t attributed to you.
  • Your community — posts as the bot with your community’s name and icon.
3

Choose members to direct message

Pick up to 50 members with a linked Slack account. Each member receives the message separately, as a direct message from your Slack account or from the Tightknit app.
4

Review the settings

Show link previews adds Slack’s preview cards under links. It is on by default. To send later, turn on Schedule for later. See Schedule a message.
5

Send

Select Send message, or Schedule send. The draft’s page then follows each send as it goes.
Sending locks the draft so its content matches what was sent. To reuse a sent message, choose Duplicate from the draft’s actions menu.

Publish to your community site

When you post as the Tightknit app or your community in a channel whose feed appears on your community site, turn on Immediately publish to site to post the message there too. When you post as yourself in a channel that publishes new messages automatically, the message appears on the site anyway. The channel must be activated for Tightknit. See Activate a channel.

Schedule a message

Turn on Schedule for later in the send dialog, then pick a date, a time, and a time zone. The time zone defaults to your browser’s, and the dialog confirms the time in your own zone when you pick another one. A message can be scheduled from 5 minutes to 90 days ahead. The send uses the draft as it reads when it goes out, so edits made in the meantime are included. If you schedule the message to post from your own Slack account, keep your account connected until it sends. A scheduled draft shows a banner with its send time. Select Show details to see where it goes, who it comes from, and who scheduled it. From the banner, editors can:
  • Change time — move the send to another time. Where it goes and who can see it stay the same.
  • Cancel send — stop it from going out. The draft stays as it is, ready to schedule or send again.
Scheduled messages also appear on the Studio Calendar, where admins can drag them to another day, change their time, or cancel them. Click an empty part of a future day and select Schedule message to start a new message that is set to send on that day.

Track deliveries and retry

After a message is sent, its page lists Where it was sent: each channel and each set of direct messages, with progress while it sends and the result when it finishes. Select View channels or View recipients to see each recipient’s status, and filter to the ones that Failed or were Skipped, with the reason for each. Tightknit retries a failed delivery automatically several times before it gives up. If deliveries still failed, select Retry (or Retry N failed) once you have fixed the cause, such as adding the Tightknit app to the channel. A message sent from someone’s own Slack account can only be retried by them.
When Slack can’t confirm whether a recipient received a message, the delivery shows as Unconfirmed. Retrying it could send that recipient a second copy.
When a send starts, the Tightknit app sends a Slack direct message to everyone with access to the draft who can open Message Blaster, followed in the same thread by the outcome. For a draft shared with all Studio users, only its owner is notified. Each message links back to the draft in Studio.
Message Blaster’s Slack notices, for sends, shares, hand-offs, and comments, reach only people Tightknit can message in Slack, such as teammates with an active, linked Slack account. Someone it can’t reach still sees the draft in Studio.

Work on a draft with your team

Share a draft

Drafts are private to their owner until shared. Select Share on the draft’s page, add people by name or email, and choose their role. Each person you add finds it in their Messages list, and Tightknit sends them a Slack message with a link to the draft when it can reach them in Slack. Under general access, you can also let All Studio users view, comment on, or edit the draft. Only people who can open Message Blaster can be given access. Only the owner can change who has access, delete the draft, or hand it to someone else. To hand it off, select Make owner next to a person in the share dialog. Tightknit lets them know in Slack when it can reach them, and you stay on the draft as an editor.

Comment on a draft

Select Comments to open the comments panel. Comment on the whole draft, or select Comment on block in a block’s toolbar to comment on that block. Each block shows how many open threads it has. Mention teammates with @ to notify them in Slack. Reply to a thread, then select Resolve once it’s addressed. Show resolved brings resolved threads back. Tightknit notifies the draft’s owner of new comments in Slack, along with anyone mentioned and, on a draft shared by name, everyone it’s shared with, when it can reach them.

Version history

Select Version history from the draft’s actions menu. Current version at the top shows the draft as it reads now, with who last edited it. Below it are earlier versions: one for each save, send attempt, and restore, and one every 5 minutes while someone edits. A version is also saved when someone comes back after 5 minutes away, or when a teammate starts editing. Select Name this version to name the current version or any earlier one, so it’s easy to find later. To change or remove a name, select Rename version. To bring an earlier version back, compare it with the current version, then select Restore this version. Restoring adds it as the newest version, so nothing is lost.

Take over a draft

When a draft’s owner can no longer open Message Blaster, for example after leaving your team, their unsent drafts move to the No owner view. Select Take over to become the owner, so you can share, hand off, send, or delete it.

The Share on LinkedIn block adds a button to your message that opens LinkedIn with a post already written, so members can share your news in one click. Find it in the palette’s basic mode, or under Sharing in advanced mode.
