When does a Slack message sync to the site?

Whether a message or reply becomes a post or comment on your community site depends on the channel’s Feed connection and its Feed settings: Slack can also rate-limit event delivery for a workspace during activity surges. Learn about the impact on synced data in Data sync reliability.

What syncs, and when

The following table outlines the process of how and when information from your Slack workspace syncs to your Tightknit community and community site.

Item	How / When it is Synced from Slack
Community Logo, Site logo	Pulled from the Slack workspace logo only once when the Community Site is created. You can update your site logo in the site images settings.
Community member count, Feed member count	Counted from your members in Tightknit (for a feed, from the feed’s members) and refreshed every few hours. Includes everyone with a pending Slack invitation; excludes bots, deactivated members, revoked invitations, and members you added who have not joined yet
Emoji reactions	Synced when an emoji reaction is added/removed on a Slack message or reply
Feed description (aka “About”), Feed topic	Synced when the channel’s Topic or Description is updated (see how)
Posts, Comments	Synced when: • A user or bot sends a message or reply in a channel connected to a Tightknit Feed (see how). Bot messages sync by default. To exclude specific bots, use the Disallowed Bots Feed setting. This is disabled if the admin has disabled the automatic sync Feed setting. • The author of a message, or an admin, uses the Tightknit message shortcut to create a post in a channel that is connected to a Tightknit Feed (see how) • A synced Slack message is edited (see how)
User profile (name, picture, profile fields)	A user’s profile is created or updated when any of the following events occur: • A new user joins the workspace • The user authors a Slack message or reply that is synced to the Tightknit community site • The user is @mentioned in a Slack message or reply that is synced to the Tightknit community site • The user is @mentioned in the Topic or Description of a channel that is connected to a Tightknit Feed • The user is deactivated and deleted from the workspace

Slack Connect channels sync as Feeds only after Tightknit support enables Slack Connect for your workspace, and messages from external workspaces sync only from workspaces you allow. See Slack Connect for setup and limitations.
